A recent photo posted on Time's White House Photo of the Day collection shows the first ever Black-American nominee in the race to the White House carries with him a bracelet belonging to an American soldier deployed in Iraq, a gambler's lucky chit, a tiny monkey god, tiny Madonna and child.
That ''tiny monkey god,'' of course, appears to be a statue of the Hindu monkey god, Hanuman, says the posting but editors and the photographer has not identified it as such.Obama, whose father was a Kenyan and mother a white woman from Kansas, spent initial days of his life in Indonesia where Hinduism is a popular religion.In addition to a lucky penny, Republican candidate John McCain carries a lucky nickel, and a lucky rubber band, which he wears around his wrist.

A technology college near here has an unusual chairman with literally high connections - Lord Hanuman. The Sardar Bhagat Singh College Lucknow: A recently inaugurated technological institution in Lucknow has appointed an unusual but divine chairman - Lord Hanuman, the popular Hindu God known for his strength and courage. With a belief that blessings from the divine will reap success, Sardar Bhagat Singh College of Technology & Management in Lucknow has put up Lord Hanuman's idol in the office of the chairman.

The newly-appointed chairman's office has a desk, a laptop and four seats besides his own seat. All visitors will also have to enter the Chairman's office bare foot.The two other chairmen of the college, Vivek Tangri and Pankaj Singh Bhaduria say that Lord Hanuman has delegated all powers in them to manage the institute on his behalf. "We searched many big names in the field of management & technology but could not find anyone bigger than him. Lord Hanuman has helped us in our trying times. So there could not be a more suitable chairman for our college", Tangri said. Interestingly, the chairman's chair if left empty with the other two chairmen occupying the adjacent seats during meetings. The college, recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), offers undergraduate courses in engineering and management.
